The 9th edition of the Danone Nations Cup sees France crowned champions at the legendary Parc des Princes stadium.

Zinedine Zidane, sponsor of the wonderful children's adventure that is the Danone Nations Cup, officially kicked off the World Final between Russia and France at 5pm. After the 20 minutes of regulation time, the French team emerged as 2-0 winners. Cheered on by a bumper crowd of over 27,000, the teams put on a thrilling display full of commitment and skill, and in particular fair play, an essential value for the Danone Nations Cup since the tournament's creation, and the motto for the three days of this year's event.

And so on their home turf, the French team saw their dreams come true as they became deserved champions of this 9th edition of the Danone Nations Cup, watched by their World Champion, Zinedine Zidane.

After winning the first ever DNC in 2000, the "tricolores" once again shone on the legendary Parc des Princes pitch. With clean sheets in every match from the round of sixteen onwards, the French side defended consistently well. They were also in inspirational form at the other end of the pitch, putting five goals past the Czech Republic in the semis, and adding two more to their tally against the Russians in the Final. The first goal in the Final was created by the n° 11, with the n°12 placing the ball in the back of the Russian net. At the end of regulation time, the n°11 sealed victory with a second French goal.

Year after year, the Danone Nations Cup goes from strength to strength. With some 40 teams taking part, over 27,000 spectators, 260 accredited journalists from every continent (32 nations represented) and ever greater enthusiasm, the Danone Nations Cup is the world's leading tournament for youngsters in the 10-12 age group. This year, six new countries made their debut in the tournament - Mauritius, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Qatar and the United States. Altogether, 800 young footballers from 40 countries wore their national colours with pride over the three days of the competition.

Besides being a fantastic showcase of sporting talent, the Danone Nations Cup is a real emotional adventure for the youngsters involved, complete with the tears of defeat and the joy of victory. In addition to the competitions, the 640 children spent four days sightseeing in Paris, visiting symbolic French landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero, and taking a boat trip on the Seine. A unique opportunity for all these kids to live their dream to the fullest.

Once again, the Danone Nations Cup has succeeded in its aim: to give children from all over the world an unforgettable experience, under the knowing smile of Zinedine Zidane, an ambassador for ELA, an association to which the proceeds of the competition are donated.

After 9 years of the Danone Nations Cup…

The very idea of the Danone Nations Cup was conceived the day after the 1998 Football World Cup and the celebrations that unite so many people around a common love: football. Franck Riboud, Groupe Danone CEO, had the idea of recreating this special atmosphere of happiness, enjoyment, acceptance and friendship, every year, for children all over the world. And that’s how the world’s reference event for 10-12 year old football players came into being: the Danone Nations Cup.

The event is founded around 4 fundamental values:
Openness: Meeting children from all over the world and taking part in a prestigious sporting event
Accessibility: More and more clubs, schools and children on the pitch each year, and more and more spectators in the stands
Fair-play: Respecting the ethical charter and the rules of the game which are signed by the coaches and players and which are approved by FIFA.
The pleasure of the game: Enthusiasm about football; a shared passion in a global event

« Believe in your dreams »
As well as being a famous sports competition, the Danone Nations Cup is also a unique chance for children from all over the world to meet. They discover new cultures, learning openness, but also togetherness. The Danone Nations Cup helps children then to « live their dream » of being a footballer, giving them the chance to play in France’s biggest stadiums (the Parc des Princes in Paris from 2000 to 2004 and this year again and the Stade de Gerland in Lyon in 2005 and 2006) and to meet football’s biggest stars.
Famous sport personalities have been involved in the Danone Nations Cup: Lilian Thuram was the event’s ambassador in 2000, and Bixente Lizarazu in 2001 and 2002. Since 2003, Zinedine Zidane has been the international ambassador for the event. The most famous French footballer is also ambassador to ELA (European Leukodystrophies Association) and the Danone Nations Cup has supported ELA the past 5 years by donating the entire revenue that the World Final generates to them.
